Añasco is a city located on the island of Puerto Rico. It is situated near the west coast of the island and was named after Don Luis de Añasco. Añasco also borders the Mona Passage, which is a strait seperating Puerto Rico from the Hispaniola island. North of Añasco is Las Marias and Mayagüez; south of the city is Moca, Rincón and Aguada; and west of Añasco is Las Marias and San Sebastián. Añasco is divided into twenty-three districts, which includes Añasco Pueblo, Caguabo, Cerro Gordo, Daguey, Espino, Humatos, Miraflores, Playa and Río Arriba.

Geography

Añasco's geography includes a number of mountains. The highest mountain there is Canta Gallo, which stands at 370 meters. There are also the Pichón and Gordo mountains, which both stand at 340 meters high. Añasco has many rivers flowing through it providing a number of water sources for the land. This includes the rivers Caguabo, Cerro Gordo, La Balsa, La Justo and the river Icaco.

Economy

The economy of Añasco is broken up into four sections: the Agricultural, Industrial, Business and Tourism sectors. The Agricultural sector is based mainly on the production of fruits and on sugar cane. Sugar cane is used to produce sugar but is also an important ingrediant in the production of Moonshine Rum. Over the years Añasco has become known as the city which produces the highest quality of Moonshine Rum in Puerto Rico. Añasco's business sector is broken up into two main parts: Commerce and Construction. There are many types of industries in the city of Añasco situated in the industrial zone allocated to these types of businesses.

Tourism 

Añasco has a number of sights, attractions and landmarks for people visiting the city to explore. These tourist attractions include the Añasco Beach, El Salto de la Encantada, Autodrome, Villa Pesquera, Río Grande de Añasco, San Antonio Abad Parish and the Hacienda La Eugenia. People visiting Añasco may also want to visit the city during one of the annual events or festivals that take place throughout the year. In January there is the Patron Festivities, Festival de Bellas Artes and Mayuco Festival. In May there is the Teather Festival and in August there is the Santa Rosa de Lima Festival. In September there is the Chipe Festival and in October there is the Cooperativa Marathon. Other festivals to look out for include the Festival del Hojaldre, Festival de la Juventud and the Encuentro de Talladores de Santos de Palo en Añasco.
